Just a few minutes walk away from Wolvesey View B&B is a beautiful walk along the river Itchen, one of the best fishing rivers in England with glorious trees, ducks, swans and even otters by night. The river powers a super National Trust water mill by the City bridge. Close by is a pub with a terrace over looking the waterway.
Another branch forms a delightful channel through the Abbey gardens, between Colebrook Street and the Broadway. By the water is a children’s playground and a new restaurant created by celebrated chef Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall.
From the city centre there are relaxing walks up and down the valley through water meadows.
For a lovely ramble you can head south for a chance to climb up to the top of St Catherine’s Hill, or to the unique St Cross medieval almshouse.
A particularly attractive spot in the city centre is the Water Close garden pond on a short cut from Colebrook Street to the cathedral close.
