Colebrook Street - ancient and homely
The street where I live, right in the heart of Winchester, is the perfect place to enjoy living in or visiting the city. It is right by the river Itchen at one end, and at the other only yards from the cathedral. It forms a loop around the beautiful Abbey Gardens park where nuns lived in a huge nunnery over a thousand years ago. Here is a new and hugely successful restaurant, River Cottage canteen.
The Bishop on the Bridge pub has good pub grub and a terrace for watching the river passing by.
A very pretty water garden midway along the street is the beginning of a short cut to the cathedral and one of the best walking trails around.
